Website Survey
Congratulations to our two winners, Elizabeth Johnson and Andrew Nester! The random numbers generated were 23 and 43, and those were the 23rd and 43rd entries, respectfully, that I received.

The results from the website survey can be found here. I also respond to a few comments that I received below the results.

Comment: I would like to see what the temperature is with humidity being factored in.  Such as a "actually feels like" section.
My Response: I will consider this idea, though it would require some extra time and calculating on my part. However, I do try to include this information on extremely humid days (when the heat index is expected to be over 100 or especially over 105). I do the same thing in the winter when we have very low wind chill values.

Comment: I would recommend if possible putting a few more weather maps and radars on the site. Maybe making it a little more user friendly and interactive. Also I would recommend publishing a forum where people from around the area can talk about weather.
My Response: You can find a couple of maps as well as links to several more on my Current Maps page. I'm not going to add any maps to my homepage because I don't want to clutter it up or slow it down. However, based on survey results, my Current Maps page appears to be more popular than I had thought, so I do plan to do some work on it and add more maps and/or more quick links to maps. My goal is to give you all the local weather information you need on my website, either directly or via a quick link to another site. I have tried the forum idea in the past and it was very inactive, but I may try it again at some point.

Comment: The page is quite busy.  Perhaps you could leave a few things off, such as the local school forecast.  Most tv stations are on top of this and that's where most people get their information.  Same for the accuracy tables.
My Response: I think this person misunderstood the purpose of the Local School Forecast. Nevertheless, I agree that the page is a bit busier than I would like, and that was part of my reason for doing this survey. I will be rearranging and removing a few things in the coming weeks, though I don't anticipate making any significant changes.

Comment: Current radar loop; Weather quiz question
My Response: I'm not going to add an actual radar loop to my website. I like to keep it simple and quick-loading (especially for dial-up users including myself). However, I may see about adding a link to a loop under my current radar image. I have done WeatherQuiz several years ago and it may return someday. I do like the idea, but coming up with questions would take a lot more time than I have right now.

Comment: better radar
My Response: If any of you can find a better radar image, I'm open to ideas! I'm not overly fond of the one I have now, but there is very little to choose from. I really liked the last one I used, but unfortunately that website suddenly merged with another one and closed down, so that radar is no longer available. Most radars that are on the internet have copyright restrictions and the one I'm using is one of the very few that is free to use. But again, if you find something better, please let me know!

Comment: Add current temps for surrounding small areas (like Danville). You are our closest weather source too!!:)
My Response: I really hadn't thought of that, but I think it is a pretty good idea! I will look into it and see if it's feasible. In the meantime, you can view a map with some regional temperatures on it (including Danville) on my Current Maps page.

Comment: Maybe do weather updates more often during the day
My Response: Unfortunately, that simply isn't feasible since this is just a hobby for me. Including driving time, I work from about 8:30 to 6:30 most of the year and am unable to do a lot of extra updates. On most days, though, I really don't think it's needed. I generally will do two updates a day when a winter storm is approaching, and I will typically post updates every couple of hours as a winter storm is impacting the area. I do keep an eye on things throughout the day and I will occasionally do a quick update if the forecast changes a lot. I also try to post information about Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Watches when they are issued in the afternoon/evening for our area. (Disclaimer: I am not always near a computer and may be unable to do this, so please do not solely rely on my website for severe weather information and be sure to refer to local media outlets or the National Weather Service's website.)

Comment: I just wish you could make a blizzard happen!!
My Response: So do I!! I'm ready for next winter...

Several of you also left "great job" types of comments, and I greatly appreciate each one of those.

I sincerely thank each and every one of you who took the time to fill out this survey! It has given me valuable feedback on how my regular visitors feel about my website and will serve to guide me as I continue to gradually change and improve my website over time. I always welcome comments, questions, and suggestions and you may always contact me through the "About / Contact / FAQ" page.

Original Survey Rules & Information:

Given the current state of the economy, I felt compelled to do a little something for someone in our community to offer a bit of encouragement. I also like to do a periodic survey of my website visitors to get a better idea of how all of you feel about the information I provide each day. So, I decided to combine those two ideas and this is the result. I ask you to take just a few minutes to complete the following survey, giving your opinions (both good and bad) about my website. At the bottom of the survey, you will have an opportunity to enter a contest for a $15 Wendy's gift card. This survey will run for 30 days, from May 18 through June 16 (the survey link will be removed at the time of my morning update on June 17, and that will be the official deadline to enter the contest). I will then draw one name and announce the winner! Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey; your feedback is very valuable as I continue to strive to provide you with the best local weather information as well as daily spiritual inspiration.

Update (Tuesday, June 9): Due to the overwhelming response I have received to this survey, I have added a second-place prize! That prize is a $10 gift card to Little Caesar's. Also, I wanted to provide you with a little more information about how the drawing will work. Again, entries will be accepted until the time of my morning website update on Wednesday, June 17. Sometime after that on Wednesday, I will allow a random number generator to choose the two winners for me. Each entry will be assigned a number (the first one I received will be number 1, and so on). The first number that is generated will be the winner (unless it is an entry that declined to enter the contest or left out important information, such as an e-mail address, in which case I will repeat the process). I feel like the winner will probably want the $15 Wendy's gift card, but I will give that person a choice between the two. The second number that is generated will be the runner-up, receiving the other gift card that is not chosen by the winner. I will contact both of these people by e-mail sometime Wednesday, then announce the winners on my website Thursday morning. For those of you who are interested, I will also publish the results of the survey in the near future.
